Swegreen continues to grow with new in-store installation, US patent and registered trademark in the USA
ICA Supermarket Gullspång installs Swegreen’s growing system Saga. At the same time, the company strengthens its international position through both a granted US patent and a registered trademark in the USA.
Swegreen AB (“Swegreen”) continues its expansion in sustainable food production. ICA Supermarket Gullspång is now investing in the company’s growing solution Saga to enable local production of fresh herbs and lettuce directly in-store. At the same time, Swegreen has strengthened its intellectual property position in the USA through both a granted patent and a registered trademark – important milestones supporting the company’s international expansion.
Local growing in Gullspång
ICA Supermarket Gullspång, operated by retailer Peter Löfvenmark since 1998, is the latest store to install Swegreen’s growing system Saga. The system enables year-round production of fresh herbs and lettuce with minimal transportation and reduced food waste, designed for both smaller and larger retail environments.
“We want to continue developing the store and offer our customers fresh, sustainably produced products of high quality. With Swegreen’s solution, we have the opportunity to grow directly in-store while also creating an exciting experience for our customers”, says Peter Löfvenmark, Retailer, ICA Supermarket Gullspång.
The installation in Gullspång is the fourth within a short period of time and confirms a clear trend in Swegreen’s expansion within Swedish grocery retail, where demand for locally produced and sustainable food continues to grow.
Strengthened IP position in the USA
In parallel with the domestic expansion, Swegreen has achieved two important milestones in the US market that strengthen the company’s position ahead of future international growth:
Registered trademark in the USA
Swegreen’s trademark has been registered by the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) under registration number 8 173 123. The registration covers, among other areas, greenhouse solutions, cultivation services and scientific research related to plant genetics within classes 31, 42 and 44.
Granted US patent
Swegreen has been granted US patent no. 12 402 574 for the company’s technology for optimizing cultivation parameters and resource exchange between cultivation facilities and adjacent properties. The patent covers, among other things, energy-efficient cultivation, resource recycling as well as AI- and data-driven control of growing environments. The patent remains valid until 2041.
Together, the trademark protection and the patent provide Swegreen with a strong intellectual property foundation for scaling its technology internationally and protecting the company’s innovations in one of the world’s largest markets.
“We see growing interest in local and technology-driven food production, both in Sweden and internationally. Continuing to grow alongside Swedish retailers while strengthening our intellectual property position in the USA is highly positive for the company and for our future international expansion”, says Anders Eriksson, CEO, Swegreen.
